Whitney Laughlin, Ed.D. has over thirty years of experience in college admissions and financial aid counseling. She earned her Master of Education degree from Harvard University in Administration, Planning and Social Policy. Dr. Laughlin is a consultant to individuals, schools, colleges and nonprofit organizations. She has been Director of College and University Counseling at Albuquerque Academy, Native American Prep School and Verde Valley School, and has been in private practice since 1996. She has also worked in the Harvard College Admissions Office. Also a resident of Victoria, BC for seven years, she specializes in admission to U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities for students with a wide range of interests, talents and abilities. She has a wealth of experience working with students who go on to highly selective schools, those with financial need, special talents (including athletes) and special needs.

Dr. Laughlin has 30 years experience in college, university and graduate school admission counseling, as well as in career and financial aid counseling. She has published numerous articles and given many presentations on university admissions. In 2005, she was the recipient of NACAC’s (National Association for College Admission Counseling) “Human Relations Award,” given to the individual who is “instrumental in making postsecondary educational opportunities available to historically underrepresented students." She was also awarded a 2009 “Counselor That Changes Lives” (from Colleges That Change Lives). She is a member of IECA (Independent Educational Consultants Association), PNACAC (Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling), OACAC (Oversees Association for College Admission Counseling) and NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling.)

Dr. Laughlin has a BA and MA in Spanish and Women's Studies. She received her Ed.M. from Harvard University in Administration, Planning and Social Policy and her doctorate from U.C. Berkeley in Educational Administration and Nonprofit Management. She is the founder and former Executive Director of College Horizons (, a pre-college summer program for gifted Native American youth, now in its thirteenth year. She is also the founder and director of Graduate Horizons, currently in its seventh year. Whitney was the founding Executive Director of Southwest College Horizons, a nonprofit organization that helped increase educational opportunities for lower income students throughout the Southwest. She has worked in admissions at Harvard College, conducted research for A Better Chance, and taught on the Yavapai-Apache Reservation.  She was Director of College Counseling at Albuquerque Academy, Verde Valley School, and the Native American Preparatory School.  Whitney is a member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association, Rocky Mountain Association for College Admission Counseling, Pacific Northwest Association for College Admission Counseling, and National Association for College Admission Counseling.  She has been a contributing editor to AISES’ Annual College Guide for American Indians, and is founding director of College and Graduate Horizons, which offers pre-college and pre-graduate school summer programs for Native American students.
